Windy weather caused a Virgin Voyages cruise ship to break from its moorings in Greece.
The incident occurred “due to unseasonably high winds” on Sept. 30 while its Scarlet Lady vessel was docked in Rhodes, according to the cruise line.
“Our Crew responded immediately, safely re-mooring the ship within minutes,” Virgin told USA TODAY in an emailed statement. “The safety of our Sailors and Crew is always our top priority, and we can confirm there were no reported injuries onboard. The voyage continued as planned, with no impact expected to the next sailing.”
The ship was on a week-long cruise that departed from Athens on Sept. 27, per CruiseMapper.
The incident is not the only one of its kind in recent years. A Norwegian Cruise Line passenger fell
into the water when one of its ships broke from its moorings in Corfu, Greece, over the summer amid strong winds, and a Celebrity Cruises ship drifted from the pier because of a sudden wind squall in Alaska in 2025.
