I've tested dozens of cars in the last few months, including sedans, SUVs, trucks, minivans and even a cargo van. Some models stood out more than others, and I was able to narrow down the four best new family SUVs for 2026 based on my testing and criteria such as value, cabin and cargo space, comfort, and driving dynamics.
The best family SUVs of 2026 include models known for reliability and strong build quality as well as innovative tech-centric SUVs. There are my top family SUV picks.
4. 2026 GMC Yukon: Large and luxurious
The 2026 GMC Yukon left a lasting impression on me during the winter. I tested the Denali Ultimate final trim, which certainly played a role in the Yukon's inclusion on the list.

GMC's full-size family SUV shares a platform with the popular Sierra full-size truck,
which I've also tested in 2026. It earns the fourth slot on our list because its cabin quality is superb. The Yukon is an absolute joy to drive and feels like a safe haven in extreme cold and wintry conditions.
The 2026 Yukon starts at $69,200, making it the most expensive family SUV on our list, but it's also the largest, most comfortable and most refined by leaps and bounds. If you're willing to pay a premium, the Yukon is a solid full-size family SUV that has the interior design of a luxury model.
3. 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid: The popular pick for small families
The 2026 Honda CR-V Hybrid checks all the boxes for a practical and affordable family SUV. It starts at $35,630, which is significantly cheaper than the average new vehicle price of nearly $50K. The CR-V Hybrid achieves an excellent 43 miles per gallon in the city and 36 miles per gallon on the highway.

When it comes to cabin and cargo space, engaging driving dynamics and generous standard features, the CR-V Hybrid has it all. It's an amazing option for families of four and one of the few true Toyota RAV4 rivals.
2: 2026 Subaru Outback: A reliable road trip warrior
I'm not a big fan of Subaru's infotainment system software or controls, but it's tough to deny the Outback's overall value as a reliable family SUV that can handle tough terrain. The 2026 Subaru Outback starts at $34,995 for the Premium base model and comes in a Wilderness off-road trim ($44,995).
It's a family SUV I'd personally consider buying because of Subaru's build quality and reputation for producing long-lasting vehicles. The Outback feels more like a wagon than an SUV, but it still offers great cabin and cargo space for road trips.
If you're interested in long-term family SUV ownership, the 2026 Subaru Outback is worth consideration.
1: 2027 Kia Telluride: The ultimate family SUV
If you're in the market for a new midsize three-row SUV, it's almost impossible to ignore the 2027 Kia Telluride. The South Korean automaker redesigned the popular nameplate and made it bigger, bolder and better in most ways.

The 2027 Kia Telluride starts at $39,190. It's affordable, has plenty of cabin and cargo space and comes with great standard tech. The new Telluride comes with a massive 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system, blind-spot detecting technology and front and rear parking sensors.
After spending a week driving the Telluride, it was easy to see how the South Korean midsize SUV has catapulted itself to the top of segment rankings in recent years. When it comes to the best new family SUVs of 2026, Kia's Telluride has the title in the bag.
