Once again there’s a change at the top of the US LBM Coaches Poll, and the new No. 1 team won’t come as a surprise to those who were watching as Week 10 events unfolded.
Georgia is back at No. 1 following an impressive win at Mississippi. The Bulldogs claim 54 of 73 first-place votes as they hope their second stint heading the poll lasts longer than their previous reign of just one week. Utah, which remained undefeated thanks to a win against archrival Brigham Young, moves up to No. 2. The Utes were voted first on 14 ballots, and their No. 2 position is their highest ever in the coaches poll.
Notre Dame vaults to No. 3 after upending previous No. 1 Miami (Fla.). The Fighting Irish were picked first by two voters. UCLA, the lone unbeaten Big Ten
squad, climbs to No. 4 with a single No. 1 nod. Indiana rounds out the top five, claiming the last two firsts.
As for the Hurricanes, they check in at No. 6. The next three spots belong to SEC contenders, with Alabama, Texas and Tennessee all gaining ground. Texas Tech moves back into the top 10.
Wake Forest climbs to No. 11, as No. 12 BYU and No. 13 Kentucky fall out of the top 10. No. 14 Southern California and No. 15 Iowa, both still with just two losses, stay within shouting distance of the playoff conversation.
Ohio State remains in the poll but slides to No. 20, its lowest position since Sept. 21, 2014. No. 19 Oregon rejoins the rankings, and South Carolina moves in at No. 24.
Missouri and Northwestern drop out after losses.
