Sergino Dest sent a powerful shot from the top of the box into the back of the net to bring PSV level in a UEFA Champions League match with Shakhtar Donetsk on Thursday, Sept. 10.
The U.S. men's national team defender saw his chance, with his teammates moving the ball around the box. Dest sprinted forward from the midfield, using his first touch to apply a finish that beat the Ukrainian side's goalkeeper, Dmytro Riznyk and made the score 1-1.

The assist came from another Concacaf international, with Curacao center back Armando Obispo setting up the scoring chance.
Dest was also involved in the first goal of the match, under much different circumstances.
In the 45th minute, Dest pushed the ball into the center circle, hoping to run onto it and spring a counter-attack. A sliding challenge took him out of the play, but the referee allowed play to continue as the defender grabbed his ankle in the center circle.
Venezuelan winger Gleiker Mendoza got down the left side of attack where Dest typically would've been defending and cut inside to hit a beautiful finish and give Shakhtar the halftime lead.

The goal marks the second UEFA Champions League goal in Dest's career. He previously found the back of the net for FC Barcelona in a 2020, opening the scoring in a 4-0 win over Dynamo Kyiv.
PSV are looking to stack up good results after missing the knockout phase of the Champions League last time around. The Dutch squad drew a number of daunting fixtures, however, including a November visit to Real Madrid and a December home contest against Atlético Madrid.
