Gibbsand DiNozzo are back together again in the epic "NCIS: Origins" reunion, a decade in the making.
Mark Harmon (Leroy Jethro Gibbs) and Michael Weatherly (Tony DiNozzo) will reunite onscreen for the first time in 10 years on the "NCIS" prequel, CBS announced Tuesday, Oct. 13.
"Home means family," Gibbs says stepping off the elevator at the NCIS office in a preview of the episode posted on the official "NCISverse" Instagram page. "And whether that means 10 minutes or 10 years, when you need them, family is always there."
The homecoming (one episode for now) brings together two of the franchise's most beloved characters and the actors who worked side by side for 13 seasons on the original "NCIS" before Weatherly departed the series in 2016. Gibbs
was the gruff, no-nonsense boss and mentor to DiNozzo, his wisecracking second-in-command.
In "Origins," Harmon's Gibbs will return to NCIS headquarters in Washington, D.C., to seek help from his former subordinate, DiNozzo (Weatherly), who is now the agency's director, after Gibbs was shot by unknown assailants in the Oct. 6 season premiere.
The clip shows Gibbs knocking and walking into DiNozzo's office. The full reunion will have to wait.
Weatherly departed "NCIS" in 2016. Harmon continued playing Gibbs until his own departure in 2021.
But both characters are back in action this fall. Harmon, who also serves as executive producer of "NCIS: Origins," is starring in Season 3 of the prequel series as part of a present-day mystery connected to young Gibbs' (Austin Stowell) days at Camp Pendleton in the 1990s.

Weatherly, meanwhile, returned to the original "NCIS" as DiNozzo in its Season 24 premiere Oct. 6, setting the stage for the long-awaited reunion.
The reunion "NCIS: Origins" episode airs Tuesday, Oct. 20, at 10 p.m. ET/PT on CBS, and can be streamed on Paramount+.
