The Canadian women's hockey team was nearly two minutes away from securing gold against archrival USA at the 2026 Winter Olympics in Milan, Italy. Then American captain Hilary Knight pulled off some late-game heroics.
With their backs against the wall, Knight scored an equalizer
with 2:04 left in regulation to force overtime. Megan Keller lifted USA to its first Olympic gold since 2018 with a sudden-death goal in overtime to clinch the victory. The Canadians will have their first shot at revenge on Wednesday, Oct. 28, when they face off against USA in the first of two exhibition matches ahead of next month's IIHF Women's World Championship in Denmark. The first friendly will be held on Wednesday at the WFCU Centre in Windsor, Ontario. The second
is scheduled for Saturday at USA Hockey Arena in Plymouth, Michigan.
Team USA is sending a roster of 31 players to the ice for pre-tournament games, including all 23 players from the 2026 Olympic gold-medal team. Knight, a five-time Olympic champion, has won 10 gold medals at the IIHF Women's World Championship, the most of any player, and holds records for all-time goals, points and assists.
Caroline Harvey is set to participate in the eight-day training camp that'll culminate with two exhibition matches against Canada. Harvey will look to expand upon her record-breaking year, which began with the MVP of the Olympic tournament after tallying nine points on two goals and seven assists in the Americans' perfect 7-0 run to gold.
Harvey went on to win a NCAA national championship and Patty Kazmaier Award at Wisconsin, in addition to being named the IIHF's Player of Year and No. 1 overall in the 2026 PWHL Draft.
"It's been a special year," Harvey said after being drafted by the Vancouver Goldeneyes on June 17. "Just all the experiences with the U.S. team and Wisconsin. Just so grateful for all my coaches, teammates, and family."
The Canadian women’s hockey team will be without captain Marie-Philip Poulin, who underwent surgery on her ACL and meniscus in July. It marks the first time Poulin won't be on the Canadian roster at a major tournament since 2008.
