Monaco striker Folarin Balogun's transfer to Everton has collapsed on the last day of the summer window, according to multiple reports.
Balogun reportedly failed a medical with the Toffees, but his deadline-day move still appeared to be on after Everton and Monaco renegotiated a new deal for the 25-year-old.
But at the 11th hour, Balogun himself decided against the move despite traveling to the Everton training ground, per The Athletic. The reason was not immediately clear.
According to multiple reports on Monday, Aug. 31, the two sides agreed to a deal that would see Balogun join Everton in a move worth $52.3 million (€45m) with an additional $5.8m (€5m) in add-ons.
But on Tuesday, Sept. 1, that deal fell apart, leaving the U.S. international striker
at Monaco for at least the next several months.
Everton was also linked with a move for Manchester United's Joshua Zirkzee, but that deal did not materialize either, leaving the Toffees short on strikers.
It was a wild final day of the window for Monaco, which also pulled out of a deal to sell midfielder Lamine Camara to Chelsea, leaving the Premier League side fuming over "deeply unprofessional" behavior, per Sky Sports.
The collapse of Balogun's move also had a knock-on effect for the USMNT's biggest rival.
Monaco was unable to complete the signing of Mexico international Érik Lira from Cruz Azul, with Balogun occupying the club's final international player spot.
Balogun saw his stock soar after this summer's World Cup, where he led the USMNT in goals with three as Mauricio Pochettino's side reached the round of 16 on home soil.
The striker scored 19 goals for Monaco in a breakout campaign last season.
The New York-born, London-raised forward joined Monaco in 2023 after developing through Arsenal's academy. He has appeared in 91 matches and has scored 31 goals for the Ligue 1 club.
