Liverpool will face Brentford in the Premier League on Saturday, Oct. 17 with a number of questions looming over the health of some key players.
The Reds will look to bounce back from a 3-0 loss to Manchester City last weekend, ending an unbeaten start to the season. With Saturday's game at Gtech Community Stadium approaching, Liverpool head coach Andoni Iraola said he would have to "wait and see" on the injured trio of Cody Gakpo, Alexander Isak and Dominik Szoboszlai.
Two are in the XI, while one is on the bench.
Here is how Liverpool is lining up against Brentford:
Liverpool starting lineup vs. Brentford
- Goalkeeper: Alisson
- Defense: Araujo, Jacquet, Van Dijk, Kerkez
- Midfield: Szoboszlai, Mac Allister
- Attacking midfield: Muñoz, Wirtz, Barcola
- Forward: Isak
While Szoboszlai was in doubt, he gets the nod in central midfield alongside Alexis Mac Allister.
Meanwhile, Victor Muñoz won the battle with Rio Ngumoha to start out wide. The big
news is Isak being fit to start, relegating Lewis Koumas to the bench.
Liverpool team news vs. Brentford
- Out: Ekitike, Bradley, Leoni
- Questionable: Gakpo, Isak, Szoboszlai
- Suspended: Gravenberch
Will Dominik Szoboszlai play vs. Brentford?
The biggest question mark may be over Szoboszlai, one of Liverpool's most vital players who was an unexpected absence against Man City last weekend.
The Hungary international picked up a hamstring injury during the international break and also missed a midweek win over LASK in the Champions League.
“We have to wait and see,” Iraola told the media on Szoboszlai, Isak and Gakpo on Thursday, Oct. 14.
“I think it’s still very early but the same way I said they are not available for the previous games, I leave the chance open this time, yes.”
