Thousands of pounds of raw and frozen pork breakfast sausage products are being recalled after plastic may have contaminated the food, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service
announced.
Fontanini Foods has recalled around 2,320 pounds of Fontanini Pork Sausage Links sent to distributors in four states, according to the FSIS announcement. It was distributed to be served at restaurants and other food service locations.
The recall comes after two customers' complaints that they found "clear, hard plastic" in the sausage. There have been no confirmed reports of injuries related to the product.
The FSIS urges restaurants not to serve the recalled products to customers and instead throw them away or return them to the place they were purchased

The recall includes 10-pound box cases containing Fontanini Pork Sausage Links, according to the FSIS.
The recalled products were packed on July 23 and state "Item 393" on the box, and the packing date on the shipping label.
Where were the recalled pork breakfast sausage products distributed?
The products were distributed for service in restaurants and other food service locations, but the FSIS announcement did not include a list of businesses who purchased it.
"FSIS is concerned that some product may be in food service and restaurant freezers," the announcement stated.

The FSIS suggests that anyone who might have been injured from consuming the recalled food should contact a health care provider.
Restaurants and other food establishments who still have the recalled products are urged to throw away the sausages or return them to the original place of purchase.
