After months of being harder to find on store shelves, Topo Chico Mineral Water is making a comeback — and Texas will be the first state to get it.
Coca-Cola, which owns Topo Chico, said the mineral water is beginning a phased return to stores in Texas, with plans to bring the product back to additional states in 2027.
The return comes after a shortage that affected Topo Chico Mineral Water for much of 2026.
Why was Topo Chico hard to find?
In February, Coca-Cola said it had temporarily stopped supplying Topo Chico Mineral Water in the United States while it upgraded the production facility and production at the mineral water source in Mexico.
The production issues affected the traditional Topo Chico Mineral
Water sold in glass bottles. Other Topo Chico products, including flavored sparkling water and canned cocktails, remained available.
The shortage came less than a year after Coca-Cola recalled some Topo Chico Mineral Water bottles in June 2025 because of possible bacterial contamination. The recalled bottles had been shipped to retailers in Arizona, Louisiana, Nevada, New Mexico and Texas.
"Topo Chico Mineral Water is temporarily unavailable in the U.S. while we make facility upgrades at the water source and production facilities in Mexico," a statement to USA TODAY said at the time. "As always, safety and quality are the company's top priorities. We aim to have Topo Chico Mineral Water back later this year. This change only involves Topo Chico Mineral Water. Other Topo Chico drinks remain available in the United States."
When will Topo Chico return to stores?
The comeback is starting in Texas.
Topo Chico said it is beginning a phased return of its mineral water in the state before expanding to other parts of the country in 2027.
That means Texas shoppers could begin seeing the familiar glass bottles return to store shelves after months of limited availability. The company did not announce a single nationwide return date, since availability will roll out in phases.
Topo Chico has a new canned water
Topo Chico also announced that it is expanding its lineup with a new premium canned water.
Topo Chico Colección is a carbonated filtered water made with signature minerals for flavor, inspired by the taste of the brand's original mineral water.
The new product begins hitting shelves nationwide Oct. 5 in 8-packs of 12-ounce slim cans. It will be available at participating retailers including Walmart, Target, Albertsons and Safeway, as well as online.
The cans have a suggested retail price of $9.99 per 8-pack, though prices and availability may vary by retailer and location.
Topo Chico Colección joins the brand's existing lineup of Topo Chico Mineral Water and Topo Chico Sabores, a flavored sparkling water made with real fruit juice.
Where is Topo Chico water sourced?
The mineral water that makes up Topo Chico is sourced from the Topo Chico spring at the foot of the mountain Cerro del Topo Chico in Monterrey, Mexico, according to Coca-Cola. The mineral water has been sourced from this particular spring since 1895.
