The FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2026 is here, bringing together 16 of the world’s top teams to compete in Berlin, Germany.
Fans will see 36 games over the course of 10 days, culminating in the crowning of the world champion on Sunday, Sept. 13.
This marks the first 16-team Women’s World Cup since 2018 and introduces a major change: the champion of this year’s tournament will earn a direct berth to the LA28 Olympic Games, joining the United States, which already has an automatic spot as the host nation. However, if Team USA secures the World Cup trophy for the fifth consecutive time, no additional Olympic spot will be awarded from this event.
The 16 teams competing in Berlin will experience a new tournament format. Group winners will advance
directly to the quarterfinals, while teams finishing second and third in their groups will enter a crossover qualification round.
