A new perk has just been unlocked for Costco members.
The wholesale club's popular custom cakes and party platters are now available for delivery nationwide for the first time on Instacart and on sameday.costco.com.
Members can pick from a selection that includes custom sheet cakes and 10-inch round cakes in addition to sandwich platters, shrimp trays, fruit platters and more, according to an Aug. 26 Instacart news release. Cakes can be fully customized online and ordered in advance.
How Costco cake delivery works
According to Instacart, ordering is easy – Members can add a cake to their cart, select the flavor, add a message of up to 30 characters, choose the colors and have it delivered alongside the rest of your Costco order.
Costco Executive members can also get more value
with a $10 monthly credit on eligible orders of $150 or more placed through Costco Same-Day or Instacart.
Costco online cake ordering updates antiquated system
The online cake ordering feature was first revealed to be on the way by Costco CEO Ron Vachris in the company's quarterly earnings call in December 2025.
"Very excited about what we have coming in the app," Vachris said at the time. "I mean, more engagement, more locking in the brick-and-mortar business with the virtual digital business as well. And as we continue to roll out enhancements, we've got pay ahead for the pharmacy coming, we've got ordering cakes and deli trays online coming."
Despite the popularity of Costco's cakes, the company long stuck to the antiquated system of in-person ordering for custom designs until now.
"So many of the things that we've heard from our members that could be a little bit clunky are now moving to a digital state," Vachris added.
