Lidl US is recalling a coffee and vanilla gelato over potential listeria contamination, which can cause serious infections, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) said.
The recall affects one lot of Gelatelli Coffee & Vanilla Gelato with Coffee Sauce & Cookie Pieces sold in 16-fluid-ounce containers. According to the FDA's Oct. 17 recall announcement, the product was distributed to Lidl stores in 10 states and Washington, DC, between July 19 and Oct. 15. So far, no illnesses have been reported in connection with the recalled gelato.

The recall affects Gelatelli Coffee & Vanilla Gelato with Coffee Sauce & Cookie
Pieces in a 16-fluid-ounce (1-pint) container.
Consumers can identify the recalled product by checking the following information, which is printed on the container's bottom:
- UPC: 4 0564897 22458
- Lot number: 085261
- Best-by date: March 26, 2028
Where was the recalled gelato sold?
The recalled product was distributed to all Lidl US retail store locations in the following states and district between July 19 and Oct. 15, according to the FDA:
- Delaware
- District of Columbia
- Georgia
- Maryland
- New Jersey
- New York
- North Carolina
- Pennsylvania
- South Carolina
- Virginia
What are the health risks of listeria?
Listeria monocytogenes can cause listeriosis, an infection that can be particularly dangerous for young children, older adults, pregnant women and people with weakened immune systems, according to the Cleveland Clinic.
Healthy people may experience short-term symptoms, including high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea, the FDA said.
Listeria infections during pregnancy can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths.
What should you do if you purchased the recalled gelato?
Customers should immediately discard the recalled product or return it to their nearest Lidl store for a full refund. Per the FDA announcement, a receipt is not required.
