Anna Faris is dusting herself off after biting comments from her old "Mom" boss, Chuck Lorre.
The actress, who starred on the CBS sitcom from 2013 to 2021 before announcing her exit, took to Instagram to respond to the series' co-creator, who wrote in his recent memoir "Sitcom" that he was "correct" about his reluctance to cast her in the lead role.
"Yikes. Yes, I read a few things. I really didn't see that coming. Of course it hurts," she wrote in a text post on Thursday, Oct. 15. "Chuck gave me a job I loved, and for seven years I never took a day of it for granted. I'm proud of what we made together, and nothing changes how grateful I am for those people and those years."
The series followed Christy (Faris), a newly sober single mom, whose estranged
mother, unruly recovering addict Bonnie (Allison Janney), moves in. Faris left after the seventh season "to pursue new opportunities," leaving the show to pivot to an ensemble comedy led by Janney for the eighth and final season.
At the time, CBS, Lorre and Warner Bros. issued a statement praising Faris as "the first and only choice for the role."
Faris continued, "I've been sober for a year and a half. I was on a show about recovery and then I lived it. Now I'm healthy, I'm working, and I'm happier than I've been in a long time. If anyone reading this is where I was, I hope that's useful. It gets better. I'm proof."

Lorre, the successful television writer-creator behind hit series like "Two and a Half Men," "The Big Bang Theory," "The Kominsky Method" and more, wrote that he "wasn't sure Anna would be appropriate for this kind of material," per Deadline, later dismissing his hesitation by pointing to his failed working relationship with"Two and a Half Men" star Charlie Sheen, which ended in turmoil.
"Someone's personal life is none of my business. The mom in 'Mom' would be, and should be, Anna Faris," Lorre wrote. "As the years went by, it became apparent that my initial reluctance to hire Anna was, in fact, correct. After six years, she left the show for mysterious reasons that were not mysterious to anyone on the show."
The series was nominated for 13 Emmys, with Janney winning twice for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy.
