The Ross Fire has burned at least 85,000 acres in North Texas, damaging several structures, including a longtime canoe rental business in Graford.

The fire is among several burning west of Interstate 35 as hot, dry and windy conditions fuel dangerous fire weather. The Ross Fire began Aug. 24 near Ross and quickly grew from about 25 acres to 85,000 acres. As of Aug. 28, it was 26% contained.

Firefighters are continuing to battle the blaze as crews work to strengthen containment lines and protect communities in its path. Conditions remain challenging, with little rain expected to provide relief.
