Dolly Parton's star is shining once again.
The country music icon's star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was allegedly vandalized after her death; it was already set to be replaced because of existing cracks, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce told Los Angeles news station ABC 7. The chamber told TMZ that someone had scratched the star and stolen memorial flowers days after the "Jolene" singer's death at 80 on Aug. 25
.The star, first dedicated to Parton in 1984, has since been replaced and will reopen to the public on Friday, Sept. 4. Video of the restoration showed the new star, at 6712 Hollywood Boulevard, being buffed, sanded and repainted.
Video posted by KNX News 1070 AM showed that the red star was removed altogether, leaving a hollow square
in the black-speckled sidewalk.
A few hours later, the Hollywood Historic Trust – which maintains the stars on the Walk of Fame – shared a photo of the restoration progress. A blank red star was placed in an otherwise empty square.
The beloved cultural icon and "Queen of Country" died surrounded by loved ones at a Nashville medical center after briefly battling cancer, her representatives confirmed to USA TODAY. The family privately laid her to rest on Saturday, Aug. 29, her niece Lainey Mae Parton revealed in a tribute.
Jada Star, Parton's singer niece, told Extra in an interview published Tuesday, Sept. 1, that the "9 to 5" singer kept her cancer battle "real private" until the end because she didn't want to cause any concern. "She never wanted to worry anybody," Star said.
