The Tulsa National Little League team has been granted a temporary restraining order, allowing them to compete for a spot in the Little League Baseball World Series, according to multiple reports.
NewsOn6 in Tulsa and KWTX in Waco, Texas, reported that Judge Ryan Luna of the 414th District Court granted the temporary restraining order sought by parents and players.
This decision comes after the team was previously disqualified from the tournament on Monday, Aug. 10.
The Tulsa team was originally disqualified from the Southwest Region tournament in Texas after it was discovered that the team fielded a player who did not meet eligibility requirements.
Little League International released a statement Monday announcing the team’s removal and declaring
Tulsa’s previous game a forfeit. This decision reshuffled the tournament bracket, resulting in Texas West defeating Louisiana 4-1 in what was initially set to be the region’s title game.
"To uphold the integrity of the international tournament and provide an opportunity for every team, community, and, most importantly, child, to have a fair and equitable experience, Little League International relies on adult volunteers and parents to adhere to our rules, regulations, and operating policies," the statement read. "Little League International remains committed to supporting all children impacted by this decision and will continue to provide support and administrative guidance to the families in Tulsa National Little League."
With the court's decision, a potential matchup between Tulsa and Texas West could determine which team advances to the Little League Baseball World Series in South Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
USA TODAY Sports has reached out to Little League for comment and clarification on what happens next in the Southwest Region Tournament based on the court order.
The LLWS will feature 20 teams, 10 from the United States and 10 international squads, and is scheduled to begin on August 19, with the championship game on August 30.
