The Seahawks are hosting the Patriots and Lumen Field on Wednesday, Sept. 9, in the 2026 NFL opener. Seattle will celebrate its 29-13 Super Bowl win over New England in front of its home crowd before trying to repeat the feat it accomplished in February to start the new NFL season with a win.
The Seahawks are returning a good chunk of the team that won Super Bowl 60. Sure, they lost Super Bowl 60 MVP Kenneth Walker III in free agency, as well as cornerback Riq Woolen and safety Coby Bryant, but they should be positioned to once again become contenders.
Their ceiling may simply depend
on how well new offensive coordinator Brian Fleury can replace Klint Kubiak after the latter left to take the Las Vegas Raiders' coaching job during the offseason.
Meanwhile, the Patriots spent their offseason continuing to bolster their offense. They traded for veteran receiver A.J. Brown after signing Romeo Doubs in free agency and also added star guard Alijah Vera-Tucker and first-round rookie Caleb Lomu to their offensive line.
New England's hope with those acquisitions? To better support Drake Maye after the Patriots struggled to protect him during the playoffs last year. Achieving that goal would go a long way toward helping the team avenge its loss at Seattle's hands to open the 2026 NFL season.
