As the Powerball jackpot climbs to an estimated $856 million, lottery players have one more chance to buy a ticket before the next drawing on Aug. 8.
The drawing is scheduled for 10:59 p.m. ET on Saturday, but ticket sales don't stay open until then. Most participating states stop selling Powerball tickets one to two hours before the drawing, andcutoff times vary by location.
The jackpot is now the eighth-largest in Powerball history, growing after no ticket matched all six numbers in recent drawings. The last jackpot winning tickets, worth $20 million, were sold in Texas and Florida on May 2, meaning the prize has been rolling over for more than three months.
When is the Powerball ticket cutoff in your state?
If you're planning to play for the $856 million jackpot, double-check your state's purchase

Here are the purchase cutoff times for the U.S. states that participate in the Powerball. The exceptions are Alabama, Alaska, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada and Utah, as they do not participate in the lottery.
