The Phils saw a 3-2 lead disappear in one swing of Austin Riley's bat in the series opener yesterday, as the Braves rallied for a 5-3 victory that put them on the verge of advancing to the NL division series.
Needing a win to stay alive, the Phillies' season now hinges on the left arm of Cristopher Sanchez (18-7, 2.91 ERA), who led the National League in wins and was the NL's starting pitcher in the All-Star Game.
He'll be opposed by right-hander Tyler Mahle (7-10, 3.99 ERA), who went 4-1 with a 1.99 ERA in nine starts for the Braves after they acquired him from the San Francisco Giants
at the trade deadline.
