Oregon football receiver Evan Stewart was booked into Springfield Municipal Jail in Springfield, Oregon, early Sunday, Oct. 18. He faces a charge of driving under the influence of intoxicants (DUII), according to multiple reports on Oct. 19.
Stewart's name also appears in the state of Oregon's official booking database,
which notes he has since been released from custody. The online database doesn't provide details of his arrest.The Springfield Municipal Jail did not immediately respond to a USA TODAY records request for Stewart's arrest details.
According to general provision 813.010 of the 2025 edition of the Oregon Vehicle Code, a person faces a DUII charge under the following conditions:
- Has 0.08 percent or more by weight of alcohol in the blood of the person as shown by chemical analysis of the breath or blood of the person;
- Is under the influence of an intoxicant or a combination of intoxicants; or
- Within two hours after driving a vehicle, and without consuming alcohol in the intervening time period, has 0.08 percent or more by weight of alcohol in the blood of the person, as shown by chemical analysis of the breath or blood of the person
Stewart, a former five-star recruit, has 27 receptions
for a team-leading 352 yards with four touchdowns this season. He missed Oregon's 17-14 win against Nebraska due to an undisclosed injury, being downgraded from questionable to doubtful on the Big Ten's availability report before the game.
Stewart was one of Oregon's most productive receivers in 2024 before missing the entire 2025 campaign due to an injury he suffered in spring practices. The fifth-year senior caught 48 passes for 613 yards with five touchdowns in 2024 before returning as one of the Ducks' top receivers in 2026.
Stewart is the second Oregon player or coach to receive a DUII in 2026, after running backs coach Ra'Shaad Samples was charged with DUII and reckless driving in April.
Oregon did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the situation to USA TODAY.
Oregon started the season ranked No. 2 in the preseason US LBM Coaches Poll but hasn't had the start to the season it expected, with a 4-2 record so far. The Ducks have losses to Oklahoma State and UCLA, with upcoming games against Northwestern, Ohio State and Michigan.
