Arsenal Football Club and manager Mikel Arteta have reached an agreement on a new long-term contract – according to multiple reports – solidifying Arteta’s role at the helm of the Gunners well into the foreseeable future.
The 44-year-old Spaniard took charge in December 2019 and, although his previous contract was set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season, he has consistently expressed his desire to keep leading Arsenal in North London.
The new contract is anticipated to be finalized either before or during the newly extended international break. Arsenal will not return to action until Oct. 10, when it faces Leeds United.
The club will be eager to regain momentum after the reigning Premier League champions suffered its first defeat of the season,
a 3-0 loss to Brighton & Hove Albion.
While Arsenal has not officially disclosed the specifics of Arteta’s new contract, ESPN reported the deal will include a substantial salary increase. Arteta currently earns approximately $20 million per year, including bonuses.
Arteta’s tenure has been transformative for the club, most notably in Arsenal’s first Premier League title in May, ending a 22-year wait.
