Whoops!
"Saturday Night Live" host Shane Gillis accidentally dropped an f-bomb, which broadcast live on NBC uncensored, during the sketch show's Oct. 10 episode.
The blooper came during a parody of Dr. Seuss'
"Green Eggs and Ham," in which Gillis plays a man who stands up for his dad as Sam-I-Am tries to push green eggs and ham on him. Early in the sketch, Gillis, in a moment where his character expresses frustration with Sam and tells him to back off, let the f-word slip.
On the show's East Coast feed, the full curse word went out and was not muted.
After saying the swear, Gillis immediately caught his mistake: He broke character, winced and exclaimed, "Jeez!" It took a few moments for the sketch to get back on track, and Gillis waved to the audience as they burst into laughter and applause.
The rest of the sketch largely proceeded as normal, though in a meta moment, Mikey Day chastised Gillis' character by telling him, "You're a loser and you said a bad word!"
"Yes, I did," Gillis said, and he ended the sketch by saying, "Sorry about earlier." Gillis later referenced the incident at the very end of the show, again saying he was sorry during goodnights.
Uncensored f-bombs rarely make it onto the live broadcast of "SNL," though there have been a number of incidents over the years. In 2025, musical guest Sabrina Carpenter sang two uncensored f-words during her live performance of "Nobody's Son." Sam Rockwell and Kristen Stewart also let f-bombs slip on the show in 2018 and 2017, respectively.
This was the third "SNL" hosting stint for Gillis. The comedian's monologues have been divisive, and his latest was no exception: He drew criticism on X for a number of controversial jokes, including one about women dressing "like whores" at the gym
Gillis was fired as a cast member of "SNL" in 2019, just days after being hired, for racist comments. He addressed the controversy when hosting the show for the first time in 2024, telling viewers, "I was actually fired from this show a while ago, but don't look that up, please. If you don't know who I am, please don't Google that."
