An Ohio woman is accused of making bomb threats to two Mississippi agencies associated with the investigation of Nolan Wells' death.
Prosecutors say Michelle Edwards, 41, of Cincinnati, masked her phone number then made false bomb threats to the George County Chancery Clerks Office and the Jackson County Sheriff's Office, both of which have connections to the high-profile death of 18-year-old Nolan Wells.
Edwards was arrested July 31 and is being held by the Hamilton County Sheriff's Office, according to jail records.
She is facing a federal charge punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Edwards is being tried in federal court in Mississippi and is listed as a "fugitive" in jail records. A spokesperson for the sheriff's office wasn't immediately
able to answer questions regarding if and when Edwards would be extradited to Mississippi for trial.
Edwards did not have an attorney listed as of Aug. 1.
'Do not go outside': Woman threatened agencies tied to Wells' death
Edwards dialed *67 to mask her number before calling the office of the George County Chancery Clerk just over 20 times during an eight-minute window on July 23, according to court records.
Ashlee Cole is a chancery court judge for George County and mother to a teenager who was on the Fourth of July trip with Wells. She has commented publicly on Wells' death in an attempt to "dispel some rumors" and reiterated her family's cooperation with law enforcement.
Court documents state that Edwards told the office of the George County Chancery Clerk "Do not go outside," "the clock is ticking," and "die." The documents do not directly state whether Edwards referenced Cole or Wells in her calls.
About 30 minutes later, records show Edwards masked her number and dialed the Jackson County Sheriff's Office Dispatch. The Jackson County Sheriff's Office has been investigating Wells' death.
Edwards called about eight times. In the first call, records state she said "y'all got a bomb outside, don't come outside," prompting a lockdown and bomb sweep.
Others arrested in connection to similar threats
On July 29, law enforcement officials booked Joseph Dumarce, 27, into the Sacramento County Jail as he faces one felony count for threatening Ashlee Cole, according to USAToday.
Many surrounding Wells' death have said they have experienced threats and harassment, including Cole herself.
Wells' parents, attorney visit Cincinnati
Christine and Elmore Wonsley, Wells' parents, spoke alongside civil rights attorney Ben Crump at the Omega Psi Phi Grand Conclave's Community Rally event at Fountain Square in downtown Cincinnati on July 31.
The Wonsleys said that they wanted to keep local authorities "accountable" and ensure an unbiased, thorough investigation of their son's death.
