United States Rep. Marcy Kaptur was involved in a car crash Aug. 2 and has been hospitalized.
Kaptur, a Toledo, Ohio Democrat and the longest-serving congresswoman in U.S. history, was on her way to a church service when her car was struck, her spokesperson Ben Kamens said in an emailed statement. She is "active, alert and being treated for non-life threatening injuries," he said.
Kaptur was a passenger in the vehicle during the crash, Kamens said. Multiple Toledo news outlets reported the accident as a hit-and-run at approximately 10:48 a.m. ET, as told to them by the Toledo Police Department. One other person was hospitalized, Toledo outlets reported, though it is not clear who.
The Toledo Police Department declined to confirm details about the
nature of the crash or offer further information to the Columbus Dispatch, part of the USA TODAY Network.
But Kaptur's office thanked Toledo police and other first responders for their "quick actions," as well as the medical professionals "helping to take care of those involved in the crash."
"We look forward to additional information from Toledo Police as they investigate the accident," Kamens said in the emailed statement.
"She expressed her deep gratitude to the hundreds of constituents who have reached out and looks forward to returning to a full schedule soon," he said.
