I've seen On shoes everywhere lately. At the airport, running errands, even Zendaya is a brand representative—you name it, someone is wearing a pair. And while I've been curious about the brand for a while, spending $150 to $170 on a pair of walking shoes I hadn't ever tried felt like a pretty expensive gamble.
I'm also not someone who takes comfortable walking shoes lightly. I use a walking pad throughout my workday, aim for 10,000 steps daily and have put my shoes through some serious mileage exploring places from New York City to Tokyo. My recent favorite was the Nike Motiva 2 walking shoes, which I managed to snag at a Nike outlet for around $60. They were comfortable, dependable and, frankly, a pretty hard deal to beat.
So I was excited to
finally see what all the On Cloud hype was about. And the timing couldn't have been better. They arrived on a Friday, just before my family left for a weekend trip that included Six Flags Over Texas. Rather than easing into my new shoes, I decided to put them straight to the test.
The result? I walked 12,240 steps in my brand-new On Cloudtilts without a single complaint from my feet. And I finally understand why everyone seems to be wearing them.
Are On Cloud shoes comfortable for walking?
Let me start by saying that wearing a brand-new pair of shoes to an amusement park probably isn't the smartest decision I've ever made. We were planning to spend hours walking between roller coasters, standing in lines and exploring Six Flags Over Texas, and I hadn't worn my Cloudtilts for more than a few minutes before leaving.
I was prepared for at least a little discomfort or an adjustment period. Neither happened.

The first thing I noticed was how incredibly lightweight they felt. I'm used to wearing supportive walking shoes, but the Cloudtilts almost felt like I wasn't wearing shoes at all. On lists their weight at just 229 grams, and while that number might not mean much on paper, the difference was noticeable on my feet.
The second thing I loved was the fit. The Cloudtilts feature what On calls speed laces, meaning there's no need to tie and untie them every time you put them on. You simply slip them on and go. I didn't have to stop once to tighten them, adjust the fit or mess with the laces.
And after roughly six hours of walking from one roller coaster to the next, my feet still felt great. No aching, no rubbing and no desperate need to find somewhere to sit because my shoes were bothering me.
For a pair of shoes I hadn't even broken in, that's pretty impressive.

What makes the On Cloudtilt walking shoes worth buying?
Comfort is obviously my biggest priority, but I also want shoes I can wear beyond my daily walking routine. I'm not particularly interested in spending this much money on sneakers that only work with workout clothes.
The Cloudtilts come in 12 color options, and each pair is understated enough for everyday wear but still have the unique On design that's instantly recognizable.
I also love that they're so easy to throw on when I'm heading out the door. Between school drop-offs, errands, workouts and everything else that comes with a busy day, the speed laces are a surprisingly nice convenience.
And while I was initially hesitant about the price, I have a much easier time justifying it after actually wearing them. The Cloudtilts are officially becoming my everyday shoes, and after this experience, On has also moved pretty high up my holiday gifting list.
