Joan Jett is stepping away from the stage to recuperate.
The 68-year-old rocker recently underwent orthopedic surgery for a fractured vertebrae following a recent injury "and will begin the necessary healing
process," according to a statement shared to her Instagram Story on Wednesday, Aug. 5 read.
"In close consultation with her doctors, Joan will not be able to perform at her forthcoming September scheduled shows" in Costa Mesa, California, on Sept. 5 and Louisville, Kentucky, on Sept. 24.
"While Joan hates to disappoint fans, she will be taking this time to focus on physical therapy and healing," the statement added. "She's looking forward to delivering tremendous concerts for many years to come."
In July, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts embarked on their first U.K. headlining tour in 16 years, performing shows in cities such as London, Leeds, Manchester and Glasgow.
In a 2025 interview with USA TODAY, the former Runaways lead singer opened up about her attitudes toward aging and how she stays active.
"I never had to work out my whole life. I was just lucky I had an athletic body. But now it’s a different story," Jett said. "I see an arm and am like, 'Whose arm is this with the crepe-y skin?'"
Her exercise regimen involves walking and "some" weight training.
"I had a shoulder operation so it’s important to keep my muscle strength up and I do a lot of core work. And you know, traveling, walking through airports and venues, that’s my exercise," Jett said. "But the traveling, that’s the one part of my job that I don’t love. It’s all wear and tear on your body."
Beyond staying physically active, Jett has also reflected on the life lessons she's learned with age.
"I’ve done a lot of growing up. I’ve learned more from 50 to my age now at 66 than I did the entire first part of my life," she shared. "You had a vision of the world and that’s what it was and maybe you didn’t question it enough. But I’m happy with what I’ve done and who I am."
