The Green Bay Packers are going to be without Josh Jacobs for the start of the 2026 NFL season, as the league announced Aug. 30 it is placing the 28-year-old running back on the commissioner's exempt list.
The NFL's decision comes after Jacobs was charged Aug. 27 with two misdemeanors relating to a May arrest – one for battery and the other for criminal damage to property. He is due to make his initial court appearance Nov. 17.
It isn't clear how long Jacobs will remain on the commissioner's exempt list.
Packers coach Matt LaFleur told reporters following his team's final preseason game he wasn't sure about Jacobs' status for Week 1. However, he also communicated the team would stand by Jacobs as his legal situation unfolds.
"I fully anticipate
him being a member of our team," LaFleur told reporters after the Packers' final preseason game on Aug. 28.
