With critical midterm elections only weeks away, fewer than one-third of 2024 Trump voters say they are enthusiastic about voting in November, a potential sign that the president's base is eroding, according to a new Reuters/Ipsos poll.
The poll, completed on Monday, Oct. 5, found that only 30% of 2024 Trump voters were “very enthusiastic” to vote in November, compared with 48% of people who voted for former Vice President Kamala Harris.
The Reuters/Ipsos poll, which was conducted over a six-day period among 4,506 adults online, has a margin of error of plus or minus 2 percentage points.
Monday’s poll is the most recent sign of a crumbling coalition for Trump, who also saw a decline in Hispanic American support in another Reuters/Ipsos poll released
the same day.

A continued drop
Since the start of his second term in the White House in 2025, Trump's support among every major demographic group has dropped, including double-digit drops among Hispanics, men, rural and suburban voters, people without college degrees and evangelical Christians.
Among male voters, a group Trump carried in all three of his presidential campaigns, the drop is more notable, with the demographic backing the Democrats over the Republicans 43% to 39%, according to Reuters/Ipsos.
That four-point gap is the largest Reuters/Ipsos has recorded during Trump’s second administration.
Cost of living amid opposition to Trump
Monday’s poll also found that cost of living ranks as the top issue on voters' minds heading into November. Democratic values ranked second, followed by immigration as the top three issues voters were concerned with.
Reuters/Ipsos also found that a large majority of enthusiastic voters looked forward to opposing the president, with 62% expressing that sentiment. Meanwhile, only 36% said they were eager to support the president in November.
What do polling averages show?
While individual polls vary, major polling averages continue to show Trump deeply underwater, with disapproval ratings approaching or exceeding 60% nationally.
- RealClearPolitics (Oct. 8): 38.3% approve, 59.5% disapprove
- New York Times (Oct. 8): 37% approve, 60% disapprove
- Silver Bulletin (Oct. 8): 37.1% approve, 60.1% disapprove
