Taylor Swift is heading to Hollywood for a special performance honoring some of the film industry's biggest names.
The Academy Museum of Motion Pictures announced Thursday, Oct. 8, that the pop superstar will perform at its sixth annual Academy Museum Gala
in Los Angeles on Oct. 17. The evening will honor filmmaker and composer John Carpenter, Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo and Oscar-winning actress Charlize Theron."Taylor is an extraordinary talent whose work resonates around the world," Amy Homma, director and president of the Academy Museum and Academy Collection, said in a press release. "We are thrilled to welcome her to this year’s gala and look forward to her performance to close a wonderful evening of honoring three extraordinary filmmakers
and supporting the Academy Museum’s mission to celebrate and preserve cinema."
The announcement comes as Swift continues to expand her work in film and television.
On Sept. 27, she premiered her cinematic "Patient Zero" music video at the MTV Video Music Awards. The gothic thriller stars Dakota Johnson and Colin Farrell and follows two women trapped in a relationship with a manipulative husband who secretly poisons his wives. Swift received the inaugural Artist Director Honors award at the ceremony.
Days later, Swift made a surprise appearance during Johnson's "Saturday Night Live" monologue on Oct. 3.
In December 2022, Searchlight Pictures announced Swift would write and direct her first feature film following the success of "All Too Well: The Short Film." The project has yet to be revisited or released.
Swift also has a connection to this year's gala honorees. She celebrated a Kansas City Chiefs touchdown alongside Tom Cruise at Arrowhead Stadium on Sept. 14.
The Academy Museum Gala raises money for film exhibitions, educational programming, public screenings and preservation efforts. Tom Ford, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Spielberg and Kate Capshaw will co-chair the event, with Rolex as its presenting partner.
Spielberg co-chairing makes sense for the Swift performance. The director honored Swift on June 11, inducting her into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. He praised her ability to connect with listeners at the New York City event, saying, "Through her songs, she has taken billions of people by the hand and by the heart."
