Few programs in college football can match the wide receiver depth and talent of its true College Football Playoff contenders.
Ohio State, commonly referred to as "Wide Receiver U" for its pipeline to the NFL, certainly meets that bill. The Buckeyes, the top-ranked team in the US LBM Coaches Poll, enter the 2026 college football season with one of the nation's top receiving groups, headlined by All-American Jeremiah Smith
.In the SEC, Arch Manning has a pair of weapons at his disposal in Cam Coleman and Ryan Wingo as Texas looks for its first SEC title and first college football championship since 2005.

There are also some wide receiver corps — and individual receivers — who are looking to showcase a full offseason's worth of work in ahead of the college football season.
So who has the top receiver groups in 2026? USA TODAY Sports ranked the top units:

1. Ohio State
Smith has been everything as advertised in his two seasons at Ohio State.
He enters his junior season with 2,558 receiving yards and 27 touchdowns on 163 catches, the most receiving yards and scoring receptions by any Big Ten receiver in their first two seasons. No other FBS receiver has more receiving yards or touchdowns since the start of the 2024 season. While his production dipped slightly last year, he still is the most dangerous person on the field.
He's the headliner of the Buckeyes' wide receiver corps this season, with Brandon Inniss moving into a larger role in the rotation, as Carnell Tate is now in the NFL with the Tennessee Titans. Inniss had 50 catches and four touchdowns over the last two seasons.
2. Texas
Texas bolstered its receiving corps by landing the top wide receiver in the portal with Auburn transfer Cam Coleman. In the process, the Longhorns lost Arch Manning's roommate, Parker Livingstone, who caught 29 passes for 516 yards with six touchdowns last season, to Red River rival Oklahoma.
Coleman, a serious deep threat who can bring in high catches at 6-3, has combined for 1,306 yards and 13 touchdowns on 93 receptions over the past two seasons. He led all SEC receivers with 14 contested catches last season, per ESPN Research, and finished with 56 receptions for 708 yards and five touchdowns while playing with three quarterbacks.
In Austin this season, Coleman will mirror the sidelines with Ryan Wingo, Manning's go-to target from a season ago. Wingo finished with a team-high 834 receiving yards and seven touchdowns on 54 receptions last season.
3. Miami
Toney broke onto the scene as a true freshman, helping the Hurricanes reach the College Football Playoff national championship. What makes Toney elusive and a headache for opposing defensive coordinators is his speed and ability to reel in tough catches despite being 5-9.
Oh, and he's a multi-skilled player — who can also be used as a quarterback, as he also completed 4-of-7 passes for 82 yards and two touchdowns — for the Hurricanes too, finishing with 1,622 all-purpose yards last season while recording eight games of at least 100 all-purpose yards. He had five games of at least 100 receiving yards.
This past offseason, Mario Cristobal and Co. added Duke transfer Cooper Barkate to the fold to replace the production of Keelan Marion from last season's CFP national runner-up team. Barkate, a 6-1 receiver who started his career in the Ivy League at Harvard, finished with 1,106 yards and seven touchdowns last season for the Blue Devils, and is reuniting with quarterback Darian Mensah, who's also at Miami after leaving Duke.
4. Indiana
Indiana lost a pair of experienced receivers in Omar Cooper Jr. and Elijah Sarratt to the NFL draft in the offseason, but returned contested-catch specialist Charlie Becker while adding Michigan State transfer Nick Marsh, one of the top available receivers in the transfer portal.
Becker emerged as one of Indiana's top receivers down the stretch last season, with 404 of his 679 receiving yards coming in the Hoosiers' final six games. The No. 3 target from last season will step into a bigger role in 2026, and is poised for a huge breakout campaign.
Marsh, meanwhile, was productive in his first two seasons at Michigan State despite his former program having one of the worst quarterback situations in the Big Ten. The 6-3, 213-pound receiver caught 59 passes for 662 yards with six touchdowns last season, and is expected to benefit nicely from an upgrade in quarterback with TCU transfer Josh Hoover.
Indiana also added Tulane transfer Shazz Preston, who had 724 receiving yards with four touchdowns while leading the team in receiving. Sophomore Davion Chandler has impressed in camp, too. The Hoosiers have to prove it, but on paper they reloaded the room quite well.
5. Oregon
Former five-star recruit Evan Stewart may not even start for Oregon in 2026, which shows how deep the Ducks' room is.
Oregon will be led by a pair of sophomores in Dakorien Moore and Jeremiah McClellan, both of whom had over 500 receiving yards last season as true freshmen. They'll be joined by UAB transfer Iverson Hooks, who had 927 receiving yards with seven touchdowns for the Blazers.
Stewart missed the entire 2025 season due to a knee injury after catching 48 passes for 613 yards and five touchdowns in 2024, and is hoping to return to his previous form in 2026. Regardless, Oregon has a four-receiver corps that stacks up against any in the country.
