U.S. Sen. John Fetterman has voted to confirm many of President Donald Trump's nominees since early 2025, but he doesn't plan to offer his support in confirming Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche to the role permanently.
Fetterman, D-Pennsylvania, made the comment during an Aug. 5 appearance on "The Weekly Show with Jon Stewart" as the two discussed executive overreach and the filibuster, which Fetterman has flipped positions on since his election and now favors
.Here's what Fetterman said about confirming Blanche.
Why won't John Fetterman vote for Todd Blanche?
While discussing the filibuster, Stewart said it hasn't stopped the Trump administration from getting "unqualified" nominees into office.
"Many of them I didn't vote for, and if you're going to bring up Blanche, I'm not gonna vote for him
as well, too," Fetterman said. "There's some that I would vote for, and then there's many that I haven't because it's just I don't believe that's the kind of right person for, for the job."
Fetterman previously supported Pam Bondi, other Trump nominees
Fetterman has voted to confirm numerous Trump nominees, sometimes as the sole Democrat to offer his support.
In February 2025, Fetterman crossed party lines to vote to confirm Pam Bondi as U.S. attorney general. He was the only Democrat to vote for Bondi.
He also voted to confirm Kristi Noem as secretary of the Department of Homeland Security, joining six other Democrats, The Hill reported, though he later called on Trump to fire her.
In March of this year, he voted to confirm her replacement, Markwayne Mullin, saying in a statement, "I truly approached the confirmation of my colleague and friend, Senator Mullin, with an open-mind. We need a leader at DHS. We must reopen DHS. My AYE is rooted in a strong committed, constructive working relationship with Senator Mullin for our nation’s security."
