Starting next year, Aeromexico and Delta Air Lines will connect Mexico City with Fort Lauderdale with a new nonstop daily route. It will be the only nonstop service between the two destinations, according to an Oct. 26 release.
The airlines also announced two more Mexico City routes to Santa Ana, California, and Portland, Oregon. All three begin in January 2027.
“We are thrilled to announce three new routes to the United States, one of the most dynamic and strategically important markets for Mexico’s international connectivity,” Giancarlo Mulinelli, Aeromexico’s senior vice president of global sales, said in the press release. “The addition of these destinations will give our customers new options to enjoy the wide range of tourism experiences
both countries have to offer, while opening new opportunities for business and trade.”
Aeromexico, Mexico's largest commercial airline, said in the release that Fort Lauderdale's beaches, "waterways," and "year-round warm climate" made it "the perfect choice for outdoor recreation."
The carrier will use Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft configured with 166 passenger seats, with 16 in Premier Class, 18 in AM Plus, and 132 in Economy.
The new routes will expand Aeromexico-Delta's Joint Cooperation Agreement to 27 U.S. destinations from Mexico City, and strengthen connectivity between Mexico and the United States, the carrier said.
First Fort Lauderdale service in years
Aeromexico serves Miami International Airport (MIA), Orlando International Airport (MCO), and Tampa International Airport (TPA). This marks the first Fort Lauderdale service in 19 years, according to a release from the Broward County Aviation Department. The new Mexico City route will also be FLL's first since JetBlue Airways ended service there in January 2020, the airport said.
"We look forward to the opportunities this new air service between FLL and Mexico City will bring, further strengthening our economic, cultural, and tourism partnerships while opening new doors for business, leisure, and cultural exchange between two dynamic and diverse destinations," Monica Cepero, a Broward County Administrator, said in the press release.
According to the news release, the new Mexico City route will "be FLL's first since JetBlue Airways ended service there in January 2020."
Delta currently holds a 20% ownership stake in Aeromexico.
