Ford has recalled more than 11,000 hybrid vehicles that may unexpectedly shift into neutral while driving due to corrosion in the transmission.
Ford Motor Company estimates that 100% of the outlined vehicles are affected by the recall, according to a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration recall report. As of Sept. 28, Ford was aware of 15 warranty claims, one field report and one customer report in the United States, the report outlines. As of Oct. 20, Ford was not aware of any accidents, fires or injuries related to the issue.
The issue specifically lies within the transmission's park lock actuator circuit board, which is responsible for keeping a vehicle's gear shift locked in park when the brake pedal is pressed, according to PartCatalog.
According to the recall report, a service wrench malfunction indicator light should illuminate on the dashboard and a popup that reads "Service Vehicle Soon" or "Shifting System Error" would appear on the display.
