Amanda Hirsch, the host of the "Not Skinny But Not Fat" podcast, apologized on social media after facing backlash to a sponsored post her on Instagram account that touted Polymarket and talked about how its traders were betting on the results of the Lindsay Clancy murder case.
Shortly after the judge declared a mistrial in the case Friday, Hirsch posted a video on Instagram in which she said that "36% of traders think Lindsay Clancy will be convicted of murder." She added that she's been "glued to this case" and is on the edge of her seat. Additionally, the caption read: "On Polymarket it was predicted the verdict would be Not Guilty. Are you surprised? #Polymarketpartner.”
After
receiving negative attention for the ad, Hirsch took it down on Sunday, issued a lengthy apology for which she disabled comments on the post. "Posting about the Lindsay Clancy trial in the same breath as a brand partnership was completely insensitive, wrong, and out of character for me — I should have known better, and I feel sick that I didn’t see that in the moment," the statement reads. "I became so consumed by the trial that I completely lost perspective and didn’t stop to think about how grossly inappropriate it was to discuss something this tragic in that context.”
She ended the statement by writing, "I made a terrible judgment call, and I feel so fucking awful about that. I know deleting it doesn’t erase it. Believe me, I’m horrified by the choice I made, and please know this lapse in judgment does not represent who I am as a person. I am so deeply sorry.”
The Clancy trial has become a subject of fascination online over the past several weeks. In 2023, Clancy was charged with the murder of her three children in Duxbury, Mass., and according to her defense attorney, she admits to committing the acts but claims she is not criminally responsible because she was experiencing postpartum psychosis. On Friday, the judge presiding over the case declared a mistrial after a jury of nine women and three men could not reach a unanimous verdict on whether Clancy is criminally responsible. Now, the prosecution will have to decide whether to retry the case before a new jury.
