A new Michelob Ultra advertisement uses a bar receipt to stand in for Lionel Messi's resume with the Argentina national team, printed after a bartender asks, "Closing out?"
The 39-year-old soccer legend announced his international retirement this week
, closing the chapter of his career with a World Cup triumph, two Copa América titles and many other achievements, as outlined in the spot.Among the additional accomplishments, "GOAT Debate Settled," "that goal vs. Mexico," and "countless" are listed under both "fans moved to tears" and "rival fans moved to tears."
It also shows totals like Messi's 23 World Cup matches won, 21 goals and 99 chances created along with other counting stats racked up over the course
of six tournaments.
The Rosario native rarely speaks in advertisements, at least not in English, and isn't spotted in this one beyond video highlights of his time with Argentina. He does have a long partnership with Michelob Ultra, appearing in advertisements for the beer brand for much of his career and also collecting more of the World Cup Man of the Match trophies sponsored by Michelob Ultra than any other player.
"More than 20 years. Six FIFA World Cups. Countless memories," the post read. "Thank you all for being there every step of the way."
