As Pittsburgh faces detours and slow traffic with the I-376 Parkway East closure, another set of roads is set to be temporarily blocked.
On July 26, OpenStreetsPGH, hosted by Bike Pittsburgh, will shut
down areas in the Strip District and Lawrenceville that typically see busy traffic to allow cyclists, runners and walkers and other pedestrians to take over the roads. Event participants of all ages and abilities are invited to join in however they like, whether that be by biking along the road, dancing with friends in the streets or exploring free fitness classes at the event's wellness hubs.
The event doesn't allow any vehicles.

When is OpenStreetsPGH?
OpenStreetsPGH will take place on Sunday, July 26, with a route from the Strip District to Lawrenceville. The event is scheduled to run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
A similar car-free day took place about a month earlier on June 28, when OpenStreetsPGH shut down traffic along a route from Pittsburgh's Market Square to the South Side for pedestrians to enjoy the outdoors.
OpenStreetsPGH is a car-free event that takes inspiration from the global open streets movement, according to the event's website. Cities around the world host similar events with the goal of getting people outside and engaged in healthy activities, participating in car-free transportation and connecting with their communities.
What Pittsburgh roads will close for OpenStreets PGH this weekend?
On July 26, a car-free route spanning more than three miles will run from the Strip District to Lawrenceville. Avoid driving near Smallman Street, 34th Street and Butler Street.
While the main roads will be closed to vehicle traffic, pedestrians should watch for cars at intersections.

How to participate in OpenStreetsPGH
OpenStreetsPGH is free, and participants don't need to register. Participants of all ages and abilities can start anywhere along the route and can walk, run, roll, skate or cycle in either direction.
