SAN FRANCISCO — The best two words in sports are "Game 7."
And for the first time in WNBA Finals history, the league's championships series between the Golden State Valkyries and Atlanta Dream is going the distance.
The Dream defeated the Valkyries 80-69 in Game 6 on Thursday to stave off elimination and force the series back to San Francisco for a winner-take-all matchup on Saturday, Oct 31 (8 p.m. ET, USA/Peacock). Both teams are vying for their first championship in franchise history.
"The job's not done," said Dream forward Angel Reese, who finished with 15 points, 14 rebounds, six assists, one steal and one block in the win. "We have more work to do. I think we definitely have another level that we can get to."
The Dream turned in their best
offensive showing of the series, shooting 44% from the field with 13 made 3-pointers that tied a WNBA Finals record for the most made by a team facing elimination. Allisha Gray finished with five of those 3s, scoring a team-high 23 points with six rebounds, three assists, there blocks and two steals.
Game 7 will likely come down to which team wins the turnover battle as all six games of the WNBA Finals series have been determined by points conceded on turnovers. Whichever team capitalized on their opponents' giveaways has gone on to win the game. The Valkyries conceded 18 points on 12 turnovers on Thursday.
