Michele Tafoya has won the Republican primary for Senate in Minnesota, according to multiple sources.
The Emmy Award-winning NFL sideline reporter took the victory after the state voted on Tuesday, August 11. She announced she was running for office in January.
Tafoya told Fox 9 in Minneapolis that her team was "thrilled" after she won the race by capturing 52 percent of the vote, according to NBC News
."Minnesota is going in the wrong direction and it is the career politicians who have brought us to this place that we are in this national embarrassment of fraud, of dropping test scores, of crime," she said. "And everyone who loves Minnesota, including me, wants to see this straightened out.
"And our message is we cannot continue to reelect the
same establishment politicians who got us to this place. You cannot reward their ridiculous failure with a promotion. So we're going to stand up for Minnesotans. Minnesotans deserve better. We think they're now demanding better and we're going to give them better."
Senate elections are on Nov. 3. Minnesota last elected a Republican to the Senate in 2002 when Norm Coleman was given the position.
Tafoya —who worked for CBS, ABC/ESPN and NBC — retired from sideline reporting in 2022 after covering five Super Bowls and 327 NFL games.
