Manchester United forward Benjamin Šeško is set for an extended spell on the sideline due to a shin injury, head coach Michael Carrick has confirmed.
Šeško hasn't played since a Carabao Cup loss to Brighton on Sept. 16. Multiple reports this week said that the Slovenia international would be out until at least January. Carrick did not put an exact time frame on Šeško's absence during a news conference on Thursday, Oct. 29, but it's clear that the forward won't be back for a while.
"Unfortunately, Ben looks like he's going to be out for a period of time," Carrick said. "We're still not clear on exactly how long but it's going to be a longer period of time.
"It was the process and, as I said to you before, we had to go through the process, a bit
of a healing process for the injury, to see how it would react, in what direction to go with that.
"So, even now, we're still working through it but, yeah, it's unfortunate. Obviously, first and foremost, for Ben, for the kind of period that he's had and tried to get through it. Going through this again, and for us to not have him available, is obviously a blow, but we'll try to get him back as quick as we can."
Šeško's absence is another blow for a United side reeling from an awful start to the season. The Red Devils have just two wins in 12 total matches, sitting in 16th place in the Premier League.
After signing from RB Leipzig in August 2025, Šeško finished tied for United's scoring lead in the Premier League last season with 11 goals.
This season, the 23-year-old has two goals in six appearances.
United will look for its first win since Sept. 10 when it visits Chelsea on Saturday, Oct. 31.
