Two children have died after authorities responded to a shooting in Los Angeles where an adult man was found suffering a gunshot wound in a reported “possible attempted murder-suicide.”
Los Angeles Police Department responded to an “ambulance shooting” call at the Venice Boulevard and South Catalina cross street in the afternoon of Sunday, Oct. 11, Los Angeles Police Department Officer Norma Eisenman told the USA TODAY Network, meaning whoever made the 911 call was near the incident. Authorities found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds, as well as an additional person suffering from a self-inflicted gun shot wound, according to LAPD Officer Alely Lopez.
KTLA reported that an unnamed LAPD spokesperson described the incident as appearing
to be “a possible attempted murder-suicide.” NBC Los Angeles, ABC Los Angeles and The Los Angeles Times reported the suspect is believed to be the father.
The victims, a 4-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl, were pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to Eisenman. The suspect, a man 30 to 40 years old, was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital. His condition was unknown. Lopez did not say whether he opened fire on the two children.
Eisenman said the circumstances leading up to the incident are under investigation and did not provide information regarding the relationship between the two children and the adult.
The shooting appears to have occurred outdoors, Eisenman said.
