Chicago Public Schools are looking for a way to beat the heat.
CPS has postponed all Thursday, Sept. 3, Public League football games due to excessive heat in the area, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
USA TODAY Sports has reached out to CPS for comment but hadn't heard back as of this publication.
A total of nine games are scheduled for Thursday; however, with games scheduled for Friday and Saturday inside stadiums in the city, there is no clear indication of when these games will be made up.
According to the Chicago Sun-Times, the games could be pushed back to later during the Labor Day holiday weekend.
The National Weather Service is forecasting temperatures in the low-90s, with high humidity values that will lead to heat indices up to around
105 on Friday. Later in the day, the Chicago area faces the threat of severe thunderstorms.
Illinois is not alone in dealing with postponements for high school football games. According to the Louisville Courier Journal — part of the USA TODAY Network — Louisville-area football games will start later to beat the heat.
In Louisville, the National Weather Service forecasts a high temperature of 96 degrees on Friday afternoon, with the heat index expected to reach 106 degrees.
