Honda is recalling nearly 44,000 motorcycles because of a reported steering issue that could increase the risk of a crash, according to federal safety officials.
The recall affects 43,913 motorcycles manufactured by American Honda Motor Co., according to a July 30 recall notice posted on the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's website.
The issue involves the handlebar lock screw, which may not have been tightened properly during assembly. If the screw loosens and falls between an affected motorcycle's frame and stem, it could impact steering operation, the NHTSA said.
Honda reported two warranty claims related to the issue in the U.S. between March 6 and July 23. The company said there have been no reports of injuries or deaths connected
to the defect.

Which Honda motorcycles are included in the recall?
According to the NHTSA, 43,913 motorcycles are included in this recall. The affected models include:
- 2017-2023 Honda CMX300 motorcycles (19,007 vehicles)
- 2017-2023 Honda CMX500 motorcycles (23,948 vehicles)
- 2019 Honda CMX500 motorcycles (4,221 vehicles)
- 2025 Honda SCL500 motorcycles (545 vehicles)
- 2025 Honda CMX500 motorcycles (168 vehicles)
- 2025-2026 Honda CMX300 motorcycles (245 vehicles)
The affected motorcycles were produced between Jan. 17, 2017, and Sept. 19, 2025.
What should Honda motorcycle owners do next?
Owners of affected motorcycles will be notified by mail beginning around Sept. 21. They should take their motorcycle to an authorized Honda Powersports dealer for repairs, according to the automaker.
Dealers will replace the handlebar lock screw and apply a thread-locking agent using an updated installation procedure, according to the NHTSA.
The repair will be completed at no cost to owners.
Honda corrected the issue in production beginning Sept. 22, 2025, according to the recall notice.
