Two of college football’s most storied and decorated programs will be facing off at least twice in the next decade.
Notre Dame and Nebraska have agreed to a home-and-home series in 2032 and 2033, the universities announced on Wednesday, Sept. 16.
The first matchup will take place at Memorial Stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 30, 2032 while the return trip will happen at Notre Dame Stadium in South Bend, Indiana on Oct. 29, 2033.
It will mark the first time the Fighting Irish and Cornhuskers have met since 2001, when Nebraska defeated Notre Dame, 27-10, in Lincoln on its way to an appearance in the national championship game that season. The Huskers
lead the all-time series, 8-7-1.
Prior to a two-game series between the schools in 2000 and 2001, they hadn’t played since the Orange Bowl at the end of the 1972 season, which was the final career game for legendary Nebraska coach Bob Devaney.
Both the Irish and Huskers are among the top 10 programs nationally in all-time wins. In the poll era, the two sides have combined for 13 national championships.
“The series with Notre Dame is the type of matchup that college football fans circle on their calendars years in advance,” Nebraska athletic director Troy Dannen said in a statement. “Our fans have a tremendous appreciation for the history of college football and iconic venues.”
