A golden retriever in California just wanted someone to play with, even if it's a suspected intruder.
Dante Rowley was on a runway about to take off from Chicago, thousands of miles away from his home in San Diego, when he got a Ring alert about someone breaking into his house.
Security camera footage from Rowley, which he shared on Instagram on Sept. 14, showed a suspected intruder climbing a ladder to break into the house through a second-story window. He then took off his shirt and shoes and ate yogurt and other snacks before napping on a blanket Rowley had left for the family's dogs.
After the intruder woke from his nap, he was greeted by an excited 4-year-old Golden Retriever named Nash. The dog brought the suspected intruder his toys, hoping
he would play with him. Video shows Nash wagging his tail and looking at the suspected intruder as he held the plush toy in his mouth.
"Nash is the worst guard dog," Rowley said.
By the time Nash encountered the suspected intruder, Rowley had alerted the police and was in touch with them while onboard thanks to in-flight Wi-Fi.
Nash is 'super-friendly'
San Diego police used a drone to chase the unidentified intruder through the house and arrested him as he jumped out a bathroom window. Nash, meanwhile, thought officers had come to play with him.
Nash was not injured, and Rowley told USA TODAY on Sept. 17 that barring the food and some broken pots from when the intruder jumped out of the window, there was no major property damage as well.
Rowley said his soon-to-be 5-year-old pet is "super friendly and playful," and loves to "play fetch with tennis balls or plush toys."
