Texas native Matthew McConaughey teamed up with late-night host Jimmy Fallon to put a bluegrass spin on one of Ella Langley’sbiggest hits.
McConaughey and Fallon performed their own version of “Choosin’ Texas” on Aug. 12 with McConaughey on banjo and Fallon playing the washboard. The performance quickly took off online, racking up more than 600,000 likes on Instagram.
The song recently made Billboard Hot 100 history, spending 15 weeks at No. 1. According to Billboard, that marks the longest run atop the chart for a non-holiday song credited solely to a woman.
Langley appeared to be just as excited about the unexpected cover as fans were.
“I may never recover from this,” the singer wrote in an Instagram story while reposting the clip, according to Billboard.
The timing was fitting, too. Langley performed in McConaughey’s hometown of Austin at the Moody Center on Aug. 13, Billboard reported.
