Colorado football coach Deion Sanders is once again "ten toes down" after receiving new prosthetic toes for his left foot, following the amputation of two toes in 2021 due to life-threatening blood clots.
Sanders took to social media to show off his custom silicone prosthetics, designed to replace his left foot's largest toes. These new additions will help support his foot, improve balance, and restore proper alignment, allowing him to bear weight more comfortably.
"This is amazing," Sanders said in his social media video. "It feels like it's dragging, but guess what? I am ten toes down again."
Sanders first spoke
publicly about his amputation in March 2022, capturing the journey in his "Coach Prime" documentary series. The show included footage of Sanders in a hospital bed, looking at his foot for the first time and coming to terms with the aftermath of his surgery.
He explained that the amputation became necessary after he developed severe blood clots following a September 2021 procedure to repair a dislocated toe and inflamed nerve. As his condition worsened, doctors discussed the possibility of amputating his left leg from the knee down.
Fortunately, after multiple surgeries, only his left big toe and second toe had to be removed.
Sanders has previously shared his thoughts on his new prosthetic toes, noting that they will let him better enjoy his massive shoe collection. As a lifelong sneaker enthusiast, he said he looks forward to wearing more of his favorite footwear in comfort.
"I’m just trying to fill my shoe up," Sanders said.
