If you had a nickel every time someone shaded the Buffalo Bills' new alternate uniforms ... you'll probably have a good hunk of change by Sunday afternoon.
Nevertheless, despite the fairly negative reaction from the fashion arbiter that is social media, the Bills will wear their "Nickel City" alternates
for the first time in a game while hosting the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday in Highmark Stadium.The new unis are a fairly bold departure from the franchise's traditional look and one meant to celebrate its hometown. The jersey and pants are both predominantly gray with the team's familiar red, white and blue palette used for the jersey numbers. However, the most striking element is the blue "Charge Helmet," adorned simply with an oversized cutout
of the team's familiar logo − namely the horn and eye and the red stripe meant to depict a charging buffalo emanating from it − plus metallic blue flakes.

"The design is a tribute to the strength, grit and authenticity of Western New York's hard-working people throughout history," the Bills said on their website, adding the new unis are inspired by the Buffalo Nickel.
"Visual inspiration came from the steel mills, grain elevators and rail yards, which are foundational to the city's place in history. It's also a celebration of the blue-collar men and women who built the team's new home, Highmark Stadium."
What Josh Allen said about 'Nickel City' alternates
Despite the largely negative reaction, Buffalo quarterback Josh Allen, the NFL's MVP in 2024, came to the defense of the new uniforms shortly after their reveal and the negative backlash that accompanied it.
"Stop hating on the jerseys, guys," Allen said during training camp.
"I enjoy them. I think it's very symbolic of what we want to do and what we want to be," Allen said prior to the team's 2-0 start in a season that's prominently featured rookie head coach Joe Brady and the club's new stadium. "I understand people want the old jerseys and the old helmets and all that.
"But at some point, too, we are moving forward. We have to move forward and do something new − and that's what we're doing."
Allen wore the "Nickel City" uniform at the team's Blue and Red practice at Highmark Stadium on Aug. 8, the first time fans were in attendance at the league's newest venue.
