Jon Stewart is trolling the "unbelievable" work relationship between President Donald Trump and Natalie Harp.
Toward the end of his opening segment of "The Daily Show" on Sept. 8, Stewart broke down the headlines surrounding Harp, Trump's special assistant who made headlines over the summer for her deep loyalty to the president. He then ran through news clips and headlines, including reports that Harp once rode in the trunk of an SUV to be with the president during a court appearance, and that she wrote a letter to the president in which she purportedly wrote, "I never want to bring you anything but joy."
The role held by Harp, whose job duties include writing many of Trump's social media posts and printing positive news stories to share with
him, is "unbelievable," Stewart said.
"The outside world is somehow fed into this woman, a single conduit, and from there, she is the filter to all of the information that is directly fed into Donald Trump's psyche," he added.
Stewart also addressed reports that the executive assistant went more than a year without getting a security clearance required for White House staffers, joking, "Can we even trust her?"
"Well, decide for yourselves because tonight here on 'The Daily Show,' we are premiering exclusive footage," Stewart said in a mock-serious tone. "We lived with Natalie Harp and the president for a month to determine what their relationship was really like. Let's take a quick preview."
The show then played the now-viral trailer of Nathan Fielder's Elizabeth Holmes documentary, "You Can See Everything," which originally showed an intense stare-down between the comedian and the Theranos founder convicted of defrauding investors. The clip shown on "The Daily Show" had Trump's face superimposed on Fielder's.
"Why would I deceive you? There's no reason for me to do that," Holmes says while staring intensely, inches away from Fielder, now Trump.
Stewart, appearing freaked out, said, "I mean, I guess I want that. I mean, but who would do that for me?" Correspondent Ronny Chieng then appeared from backstage with his own printer, sharing a positive news story with Stewart.
"Oh my God. 'Late-night television has never been more fiscally robust and governmentally appreciated.' Wow, thanks, Ronny! Is that true?" Stewart said.
"Yeah, of course. I mean, could I have printed something that isn't true?" Chieng joked.
