If you've spent any time on the internet lately, there's no doubt that you've seen people reference Saucy Santana's song "Quiet on the Creek," which features him whisper-singing the phrase over and over in the chorus.
That term has taken on a life of its own, as people are making dances to phrase and using it in conversation. Here's what to know about it.
Real quick, what does 'quiet on the creek' mean?
It's the internet's new favorite way of saying "keep quiet" or "keep a low profile."
Where does 'quiet on the creek' come from?
From “Material Girl” to “Booty,” TikTok creators have routinely used Santana's music to create a viral trend.
"Quiet on the Creek" started a year ago: In a livestream that musician Santana hosted in July 2025, he was eating some red snapper with his friend Yung Miami, and said, "I used to go fishing when I was a little girl. You gotta be real quiet on the creek."

A year later, on July 17 of this year, his song “Quiet on the Creek” was released. People began using the song and made videos giving the term multiple meanings. The clip from the old livestream was resurfaced, and people started using the term the comments on his livestreams.
When he made an appearance on the radio show "The Breakfast Club," Santana told the hosts that the term came from when he was younger and his grandma took him to the creek and said that he needed to be "quiet on the creek" so as not to scare the fish away.
How did the phrase spread?
According to Know Your Meme, the song became a trend even before its official release, as people used a teaser to make videos. One of the earliest videos to use the chorus featured the creator @xiandivyne dancing to it on July 15, and it gained over 800,000 views in less than a week.

More than 739,000 people have used the song in their TikTok videos. It debuted at No. 45 on Billboard’s Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart, and it's sitting at 3.6 million streams on Spotify, as of Aug. 21.
"People pay to go viral, people pray to go viral, and I’m doing it authentically," Santana said on "The Breakfast Club." "This moment is so big, though. Let me do something about it."
What are the various other meanings of 'quiet on the creek'?
A popular iteration of the trend is making jokes about people who are "moving in silence,” which can mean literally not making noise while you move, or working on your goals and aspirations while not divulging the details to people. One person on X wrote in a post that says, "I can’t talk about what I’ve been up to, I gotta be quiet on the creek."
i can’t talk about what i’ve been up to, i gotta be quiet on the creek

It's been used to also mean that you don’t agree with a popular sentiment, like one user who put it, "when yall say 'money dont buy happiness' I be real quiet on the creek."
when yall say “money dont buy happiness” i be real quiet on the creek 😂

The trend has morphed: Someone who is considered loud is not "allowed to come to the creek." People are making compilation videos of their favorite artists accompanied by text that says, "Someone we definitely CANNOT bring to the creek."
One example of this shows the singer Durand Bernarr, who has multiple viral moments online of singing loudly. Another example shows one of Cardi B's most viral moments where she's talking very loudly in a video.
@sweetmelenin love him but he definitely wouldnt be quiet on the creek😭😭😭 #fyp #viral #quietonthecreek #durandbernarr #funny @Durand THEE Bernarr

It's been used to refer to when gay men are searching for men on the "down low." One user who writes: "Quiet On The Creek” Mean When Gay Boys Go Fishing For DL Dudes & THEY HAVE TO BE QUIET."

What celebrities are using the term?
Santana also made up a dance to go along with the phrase where he shakes his chest, which more people are copying as they make videos to the song.
